By making tepees, necklaces, headbands, totem poles, and vests the students learned about Native American customs and culture. The second mini unit was on reindeers.  We made reindeer food, fact books, headbands, and pillows.  The students enjoyed learning about reindeers through the activities that went along with the lessons.  I also assisted students one on one, taught in all subject areas, attended meeting with my mentor teacher, and helped organize lesson plans with my mentor teacher and independently.

My partner and I taught in a second grade math and science classroom.  We taught six math and six science lessons.  In math, using a “hands on” approach and the schools curriculum we taught about different shapes and made various graphs to represent them. In science, our topic was sound and the different ways that sound is made and how it travels.  Daily journals were kept for both subjects.  Journal entries included responses to questions posed to students to engage their comprehension of the subject matter.  In addition, we created a bulletin board with important vocabulary, assisted with lesson planning, and worked with students one on one.
